Super Tourenwagen Cup
Mercedes ran the C-Class in the German Super Tourenwagen Cup from 1994 to 1996. The 2.0-litre rules prompted AMG to build a high-revving 320 PS version of the M111 that screamed to 10,500 rpm in a front-driven car. Persson Motorsport and D2 AMG ran it, with Roland Asch and Jan Magnussen among the drivers. It could not quite match the dominant BMW 320i but regularly challenged for podiums.
Endurance and silhouette racing
The C36 and C43 AMG saw use at the Nurburgring 24 Hours; an AMG customer-sport C43 finished seventh overall and won its class in 1998, and the C-Class became a VLN regular in the V6 and V8 classes. In South Africa the WesBank Modifieds series ran heavily modified V8 silhouette C-Class shells, and in the United States privateers fielded C280 and C36 AMG cars in SCCA World Challenge.
