Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W126) · 1979–1991The S-Class everyone measures against.

Project Benz documents Mercedes S-Class (W126) culture without softening it: the Sacco shape that aged better than its decade, the pillarless SEC coupe, the 5.6-litre 560SEL and 560SEC, the period AMG and Lorinser widebodies, and the diesels built to run forever. It is part owners' registry, part technical archive, with factory specs for every W126 variant, restoration and buyer's guides, paint codes, and wheel fitment, mapped to real cars in real garages worldwide. The cleanest Mercedes W126 builds and the reference to make sense of them, on one feed.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W126), 1979–1991

The W126 set the standard for the full-size Mercedes through the 1980s, built from 1979 to 1991. Bruno Sacco's clean, aerodynamic shape aged better than almost anything from its decade, and the pillarless SEC coupe is one of the most admired Mercedes ever made.

The range ran from sensible sixes to the 5.6-litre V8 560SEL and 560SEC. The SEC in particular is a darling of the tuning world, from period AMG and Lorinser widebodies to modern restomods. Clean cars, especially the coupes, have risen sharply in value.
