A Mercedes-Benz C 43 AMG W202, the first factory C-Class with a V8. Affalterbach had already put the 4.3-litre M113 in the bay. BRABUS took that architecture further.
The motor is a 5.8. Same three-valve M113 family as the S 500, built in Bottrop for export, then dropped into a C-Class engine bay that was never drawn for 5.7 litres. Custom block. Longer-stroke crank. Larger pistons. Cylinders finished to the new size. Special cams. Electronics rewritten. The limiter deleted. BRABUS quoted 400 horsepower at 5,750 rpm and 427 pound-feet from 3,000 to 4,250. They said 180 mph, give or take.
This was never a BRABUS production car. No catalogue run. A special-order conversion on a C 43. Period statement from BRABUS U.S.A.: the only one of its kind in the United States. Treat that as a claim on the file, not a factory serial. An S202 estate 5.8 exists in Europe. This version is the US saloon.
What came with the conversion is still on the car. BRABUS Version 1 brakes, six-piston aluminium calipers up front, vented and drilled discs, steel-flex lines. Monoblock IV threes, 18-inch, painted with the body. C58 script on the boot. BRABUS badge on the bonnet where the star sat. Side logos. Black velour mats with the word on them. The three-piece aluminium pedals.
What came later is the chassis the 5.8 actually needs. KW Variant 2 coilovers. A Wavetrac helical limited-slip in the rear. KMAC camber and caster up front, camber and toe at the back. That is how you keep a stroked V8 in a compact saloon on its tyres.
The five-speed automatic stayed. Rear-wheel drive stayed. The shell is still a C-Class you can park next to a C 280 and not start an argument until someone reads the boot.
