Saludos, Project Benz family., writing to you from the Dominican Republic to share the absolute crown jewel of my garage: a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL.
This isn’t your standard W126. This is a true Japanese-market heavyweight, originally built by AMG, imported by AMG Japan Co., and distributed through Yanase & Co., Ltd. For those who know their Benz history, that pedigree alone is something special.
Under the hood is where the real magic happens, it’s powered by the legendary AMG-built 6.0L DOHC V8, putting power down through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. To keep all that momentum in check, it’s running a four-wheel disc brake setup.
Aesthetically, she is a mafia boss’s dream. The car is finished in a flawless Blue Black Metallic over a pristine black leather interior. The stance is completely transformed by the full aerodynamic body kit and a beautiful set of 17″ Aero III modular wheels. (When I finally acquired the car, I made sure to grab the spare set of wheels it came with, too).
Inside, it’s pure 90s executive luxury. You are surrounded by beautiful burl walnut interior trim and an AMG/MOMO steering wheel that feels perfect in the hands. It’s fully loaded for the era: a sunroof, automatic climate control, a classic Nakamichi CD stereo, and heated, power-adjustable seats in both the front and the rear. My favorite touch? The fold-down rear picnic tables. It’s the ultimate VIP cruiser.
Some of the veterans on the forums might actually recognize this exact chassis. It was famously featured on auction website back in 2014. From there, it lived up in Canada for a while before being imported down to the US in January 2023. It eventually crossed the block at no reserve out in California, which is how I was finally able to step in, claim it, and bring it home here to the DR.
It is an absolute honor to own a piece of AMG history like this. Let me know what you guys think, and if anyone is ever down in the Dominican Republic, hit me up!

What powers that beauty

Documentation accompanying the car includes AMG and Mercedes-Benz literature, Japanese paperwork, and import documents.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller states the differential fluid was flushed in October 2023 and that the underside has received a dry-ice cleaning treatment. There is rust on the exhaust system.

The 6.0L M117 V8 is equipped with DOHC AMG cylinder heads and made 355 horsepower when new. An October 2023 service is said to have included flushing fluids and replacing the spark plugs and wires, hoses, and a battery

White-dial AMG instrumentation includes a 300-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer indicates 138k kilometers (~86k miles), less than 1k of which were added by the seller.

The cabin features heated and power-adjustable front and rear seating trimmed in black leather, along with a color-coordinated dashboard, pleated door panels, and carpets. The car was fitted with a burl walnut interior trim package that extends to the dash, center console, door panels, and rear picnic tables. Additional amenities include automatic climate control, electric windows, cruise control, and a Nakamichi AM/FM/CD stereo. The seller states the leather upholstery and wood trim have been refurbished.

17″ AMG Aero III modular wheels feature body-color centers and are mounted with 245/45 Sumitomo HTR Z5 tires. A spare set of AMG 17″ Aero I wheels with Yokohama Avid H4S tires will accompany the car. The four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are said to have been modified with AMG components, and a performance suspension package was reportedly installed.

The car is finished in Blue Black Metallic (199) and equipped with AMG aero elements, body-color trim, a sunroof, European-market headlights with headlight wipers, heat-insulating glass, “AMG” and “DOHC/6.0” decklid badging, and twin exhaust outlets with polished AMG-branded finishers.
