Joe

This is Joe. I found him tucked away and covered in a layer of dust in a corner of an underground classic car dealership. He hadn’t moved in almost 10 years.

My search for a W124 was simple, find a good example, and do a road trip from Athens to Berlin for my YouTube channel. Unfortunately, being new to buying cars, I thought a car thats been immobile for 10 years would be in good shape… little did I know there was old fuel in the tank, the KE-Jettronic system had turned into a waterfall, the brakes were seized, and every single hose had turned to dust.

Nevertheless, he made it the 3000km to Berlin, in one piece, with only one minor coolant explosion in Romania. His exhaust was always red-hot, and he emitted a dark black cloud every time I drove him, that poisoned anyone within a 2km radius.

Its been two years since that trip, and since then his leather interior has been conditioned, his paint has been corrected, all of his mechanicals have been rebuilt, and he is now a trust daily driver.

Many many things remain to be done, his grey interior is various shades of green, brown, and grey due to sun damage, the front and rear bumpers need to be replaced, and the manual gearbox has to be rebuilt (catastrophic input shaft whine)

The moral of this story is, don’t buy a W124 thats been sitting for ages. Unless its dark blue and its called Joe.
