Martin Szombierski built this 1969 Mercedes-Benz W108 over roughly four years alongside his father, drawing direct visual inspiration from the 1971 AMG 300 SEL race car known as the Red Pig. The wide bodywork, removed bumpers, and Hella rally spotlights reference that competition car, while the choice of Mercedes-Benz China Blue paint gave the build its own identity and the nickname Blue Pig.
The platform received a 5.0-litre V8 engine producing approximately 306 horsepower, sourced from a modern E500 AMG, along with a fully custom air suspension system designed and fabricated by Martin and his father. The body was comprehensively reworked with widened arches accommodating three-piece BBS wheels in Mercedes-Benz Desingo finish, and the shortened frame was refinished throughout.
The interior retains the original cabin proportions but reinterprets them in a modern, minimal direction with custom-made components and precise finishing throughout. The car competes and exhibits across Europe, having appeared at Ultrace, Essen Motor Show, Fitted Fest, Custom Motor Show in Sweden, and the Hot Wheels Legends Tour Poland, which it won in 2024.
A second W108 build, documented from early 2026 onward, was completed in time to appear alongside the Blue Pig at Fitted Fest 2026 in Lahti, Finland, where the pair received the press jury award. Both cars remain registered to Martin Szombierski and are driven regularly on public roads.

FITTED FEST ’26 – RUNNER-UP The number two spot was taken by not one, but two cars, by Martin Szombierski from Poland. This combo is something very special. We were lucky enough to get Martin to plan a trip to Finland earlier this year, and as we love his blue Mercedes very much, we thought it was only fitting to have that car immortalized in the event’s design. Our hopes of seeing Martin’s blue Mercedes at Fitted Fest were high, but we could not have expected of what was to come. Closer to the event, Martin asked if he could suggest something crazy. And so he brought along his newest, just-finished build to accompany the blue one and all the Fitted Fest ’26 visitors. Both of these builds are unique, inspiring and absolutely beautiful. Some Dad’s help you make your school science project, some help you build your dream car. Lucky for Martin, his Dad was the latter. Almost immediately you can see the inspiration drawn from the infamous “Red Pig.” A W109 that crossed the finish line in second place at the 24-hour race in Spa, gaining the car the reputation as the “Rote Sau.” A nickname you’d expect from a school bully. The front spot lights, removed bumpers, 200mm wide arches all pulling inspiration from the race car. But Martin wasn’t building a red pig, he was building his own car. The red was ditched for Mercedes-Benz China Blue. The “Blue Pig” was born. The rest of the build is best described as OEM+ on steroids. Although it looks like a 1969 W108 from the outside, under its skin is a very different story. Martin and his father have used the complete floor from a 2003 Mercedes e500. That means it’s got a 5.0 V8 with 306hp. Everything from the drivetrain, brakes and electronics are all from the e500. Even more impressive, everything was done in one garage by Martin and his dad. The OEM+ continues inside, with a complete custom interior built from scratch. Incorporating the modern gauges and digital display with the old style bucket seats. When I asked Martin what his favourite thing about the car was, he replied “The best thing I can say about this car, is I built it with my father’s help, we did it together and ended up with my dream car.” 📷: @bubophotography #driversclub

A modern és klasszikus stílusjegyeket ötvöző Mercedes-Benz W108 projektje, a “Blue Pig” a 2024-es Ultrace egyik sztárja volt, mely insipirációját tagadhatatlanul az AMG egyedülálló versenyautója, az 1971-es 300 SEL “Red Pig” adta. Az autó alá megálmodott, teljesen egyedileg épített levegős futómű Martin és édesapja keze munkája, mely tökéletes stance-ben húzza a szélesített karosszériát a BBS háromrészes, Mercedes-Benz Desingo felnijeire. A frontot a Hella rallyfényszórói viszik el a retro felé, az utastér ugyanakkor az eredeti design modern és minimalista interpretációja, a legprecízebb kidolgozás mellett. Az autó nemcsak vizuálisan impozáns, a motorháztető alatt egy modern, 5.0 literes M113 V8-as aggregát figyel 306 lóerővel, ami cirka háromszorosa egy korabeli W108-as tudásának. 💎 🇬🇧 Martin Szombierski @_szombi_ was one of the first tuners to register for this year’s AMTS. His Mercedes-Benz W108 project, the “Blue Pig”, which blends modern and classic styling cues, was one of the stars of Ultrace 2024. The inspiration behind the build is unmistakably drawn from AMG’s legendary race car, the 1971 300 SEL “Red Pig”. The fully custom-built air suspension system, envisioned beneath the car, was handcrafted by Martin and his father, ensuring the widened body sits perfectly in stance on BBS three-piece Mercedes-Benz Designo wheels. The front end leans toward a retro feel with Hella rally lights, while the interior is a modern, minimalist reinterpretation of the original design, executed with the utmost precision.
