Boosted Baby Benz: The W201 190E of Groningen

This 1986 Mercedes 190E W201, finished in 512 Almandinrot, has been in the hands of the same owner in Groningen for over fourteen years. The build began in 2011 as a standard 2.0-litre car and moved steadily toward a lowered, stance-oriented setup through the fitment of Air Lift air suspension, AMG-style wheels and a Cosworth 16v body kit.

Around 2019 the original engine was pulled in favour of a Mercedes M111 unit. That engine was later rebuilt and fitted with a Holset turbocharger, managed by a Haltech ECU. Preparation for the swap included bare-metal bodywork, rust repairs, welded wheel arch extensions and a fresh coat of paint. KW suspension components replaced the air ride setup to suit the more performance-focused direction.

By late 2024 the turbocharged engine was running, and the car returned to the road in the summer of 2025. In September 2025 it completed a trip to the Nurburgring Nordschleife, the first long-distance drive following the multi-year rebuild. Post-rebuild specification includes OZ Racing wheels and Nankang CSR tyres.
