Project Benz documents Mercedes SL (R107) culture without softening it: the eighteen-year roadster that defined boulevard Mercedes, the US-market 560SL, the European 500SL, the smooth straight-sixes, and the removable hardtop that came with all of them. It is part owners' registry, part technical archive, with factory specs for every R107 variant, restoration and buyer's guides, paint codes, and wheel fitment, mapped to real cars in real garages worldwide. The cleanest Mercedes R107 builds and the reference to make sense of them, on one feed.
The R107 SL ran for an extraordinary eighteen years, from 1971 to 1989, which makes it one of the longest-lived Mercedes designs. A two-seat roadster with a removable hardtop, it traded outright sportiness for solidity and presence, and wore it well across two decades of detail changes.
Engines spanned smooth straight-sixes and a range of V8s, up to the 5.6-litre 560SL built for the US market. Long undervalued, clean R107s have climbed steadily as the 1980s Mercedes look came back into fashion.
