Rainy weekend project. Took a break from bodywork on the W204 body patterns to turn some recycled soda cans into a dead pedal and pedal box trim. I’ve always loved metalwork. It takes me back to my days restoring old cars, and there’s a certain romance to making something by hand. Beyond that, the pedal box is one of the most important parts of a race car, and it’s the little details like these that separate a good build from a great one. That about wraps up the pedal box assembly. Now it’s time to lock everything down and get it plumbed in. More W204 EVO touring car updates coming soon! #racecarbuild #touringcar #metalwork #w204 #pedalbox

Part one of building the body on my interpretation of a Mercedes W204 “EVO.” Taking inspiration from the legendary Group A 190E Evo and more period-correct touring cars like the WTCC BMW 320si, the goal is to turn the W204 into something that looks like it belongs on the grid. Flared / Raised Arches. Functional. Lightweight. The bodywork will follow the basic principles of any proper production based touring car, with the first step being forming the front panels and turning them into patterns for the molds. This is where it starts. Follow along for what’s next! #touringcar #projectcar #racecar #w204 #tracktool

Went full in on the WTCC inspired W204 EVO body work. Tried fitting the 18x10s under the standard body with no luck, so raising the arches and widening them up to clear the wheels. Took most of my inspiration from the BMW e90 320si as what would be a contemporary (if Mercedes competed in WTCC in that era) but also the 190 EVO DTM and the w202 DTM. Front arches will be raised 50mm, rears nearly 40mm, only going about 25mm wider all around, but the front of the wheels will be aero shielded. It gonna be a little more work, but doing it right will really make this car what I want it to be - the FIA Super 2000 spec W204 that Mercedes never built. Next step is to build out the arches with AB urethane foam and start curving. Full speed ahead and more updates to follow. #teamVRE #W204EVO #touringcars #w204

A mentor of mine used to say, ‘You just need to show up at the place.’ So I’ve been showing up, in the garage, refreshing this old W204 race car and working it through its next evolution. Haven’t posted much - or really at all, but there’s been a lot going on: shedding weight, shifting balance, freeing up some power, rebuild components, cleaning up old messes, and giving it a bit more width and a facelift to 2012+ spec. Getting close to a proper shakedown on track - sooner rather than later. #mercedesw204 #racecarbuild #trackcar #racecarthings
