Looking at a 1993 500 SL. Beyond the obvious service history, what are the known weak points that decide whether I should walk away?

Number one: the engine wiring harness. Early-to-mid 90s cars used biodegradable insulation that crumbles — check for a documented replacement, and inspect the throttle actuator harness too, it's a four-figure part. Then: soft-top hydraulics, ADS suspension leaks if fitted, and that the hardtop, tools and both keys are present. Rust matters less on these but check the jack points.

Run every roof cycle and every seat adjustment during the viewing. The car will tell you where the money went — or didn't.
