This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190D 2.0 is a W201 based in Lincoln, United Kingdom, carrying just over 306,000 miles on its original OM601 diesel engine. It runs a manual gearbox and wears its factory 623 Hellelfenbein paint, a light ivory shade that suits the taxi spec brief the owner had in mind.The suspension has been replaced with BC BR-Type Coilovers, bringing the car low while keeping it usable as a daily driver. Borbet wheels fill the arches, which have been rolled and pulled to accommodate the fitment without fouling. The car is due a number of upgrades as part of Project605, including a build OM605 Turbo Engine with a 500hp power goal, a period-correct Zender aero kit, and a set of new 3-piece wheels.Outside, the changes are measured: a custom stainless exhaust, smoothed aerial, and W126 washers in place of the standard units. Inside, the Brazil Brown MB-Tex trim remains intact, joined by a Momo California Heritage steering wheel, a Blaupunkt RCM92 head unit, and Focal ACX audio speakers.

The Merc just rolled over to 304,000 miles today, and it just made me think about how much enjoyment this car has given me already. A little over 3 years ago when I was scrolling Marketplace looking for a new daily driver, I found this thing, in taxi-spec Cream over Brown, and I said to myself “that’s the one”. Who knew back then that I would form such an attachment to this silly 30 year-old Benz. I know all its flaws, but to me, it’s faultless. It’s helped me find love, friendship, and a community of wonderful people (you lot). And it doesn’t look out of place in the countryside, or at a car show. This car taught me patience, I missed out on overtakes but gained more opportunities to appreciate my surroundings, more time to drop the windows, open the sunroof, put on a playlist and just enjoy the world around me. From a more practical standpoint it’s helped me learn welding, bodywork, paint, and nearly every single aspect of this amazing platform that is the W201. I’ve poured my heart and soul into it, and with that time and effort it’s become more than a machine, more than the sum of its parts, it’s an extension of myself. I’ve realised that I can’t imagine myself without it. Three years of building the vision I saw in my head from day one… And I still look back every single time I walk away. See you at 400,000.

Josh’s 190D is #bcequipped ✅ It was a pleasure to have this immaculate Mercedes 190D in our workshop to test and fit our recently developed BR Series kit. Replacing the lowering springs with a fully adjustable coilover setup has transformed the car, giving it significantly improved performance and ride height adjustability while perfectly complementing the quality of the restoration.
