This one left Texas yellow and is living in the Emirates now. That is enough reason to write it down.
1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500. R129. The last Sacco SL, facelift lamps, M113 in the bay. Sunburst Yellow, code 685, over black Nappa. Hardtop painted with the body and a pane of glass in the roof. Black cloth underneath. SL1 Sport bumpers and skirts. Eighteen-inch AMG fives. Xenons. Fender vents. Someone added an AMG badge to the decklid after the factory had already finished.
Von Housen Motors in Sacramento put it on the floor. The window sticker still exists. $94,160 when that was a house payment. Then California miles, then Texas miles. August 2016 it changed hands. February 2025 it crossed Bring a Trailer at no reserve out of Austin twenty-seven thousand on the clock, clean Carfax, clean Texas title, $59,500. The new owner is in the UAE.
What the sale paper admitted: some panels have been refinished. The driver’s mirror is dim. Valve-cover gaskets and air filters were done before the auction. Oil changed for the same reason. Mass-air meter and the steering in 2021. That is a low-mile R129 telling the truth, not a brochure.
Inside it is still 1999. Heated seats with memory. Cassette. Automatic climate. Cruise. Roll bar that stands up on its own. Four-spoke wheel with wood in it. One-sixty speedo, six-thousand redline, oil temp still on the stack. The M113 is the 302-horse 5.0, 339 pound-feet, five-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive. Nobody stroked it. Nobody needed to.
Yellow SLs get talked about like unicorns. I am not putting a production number on this file. I am putting the colour, the hardtop, the miles, and the fact it left America.

The 5.0-liter M113 V8 produced 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque from the factory. Recent service in preparation for the sale includes an oil change and the installation of new valve cover gaskets and air filters, while the mass air flow sensor was previously replaced in 2021.

Greeted by a four-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel accented with matching burl wood. It frames a comprehensive instrument cluster featuring a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,000-rpm redline, and a clock, alongside auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil temperature, fuel economy, and fuel level. The digital odometer currently shows just 27k miles.

Inside, the heated and power-adjustable seats are trimmed in Black Nappa leather, complemented by rich burl wood accents across the doors, center stack, and console. The cabin is generously appointed with amenities including automatic climate control, cruise control, seat position memory, and a classic cassette stereo. Additional details include bright door sill trim, a deployable roll bar, and a heated rear window for the hardtop.

The car rides on 18-inch five-spoke AMG alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires. Braking is handled by a four-wheel disc system equipped with ABS for reliable stopping power.

Finished in striking Sunburst Yellow (685), the car includes both a black soft top and a color-matched removable hardtop with a panoramic glass roof. It is equipped with the SL1 Sport Package, which adds aggressively styled bumper covers and side skirts. Exterior highlights are rounded out by xenon headlights, fog lights, fender vents, and aftermarket AMG decklid badging.
